First AME Zion Community

Event: First AME Zion
Interviewer: Audrey

Whom did you interview?

The person I interacted with was Phillis. Phillis and her parents wanted a better life and left the south to come to Oregon. Phillis grew up in the church in the 1950’s, and her dad was apart of the church. She has always been apart of a church, even if she went on vacation, she always had her faith. She shared with my group that the congregation was formed in 1862, as well as how big the congregation was in the 60’s and 70’s, but all that changed when covid hit and was a hard point for the church.

How did your EcoTypes and SDG priorities compare?

Myself and Phillis both shared most of the same opinions within the Ecotypes and SDG priorities. Phillis and I were both very left lenient within the surveys. For Place we were both around L3 and L2 (Non-Human), For Action we both picked L2 (Small Action), because we both believe that if everyone divides to do one small thing that we will make more progress.

What larger MCJD lessons did you learn?

The larger MCJD lessons that I drew from this experience is the sense of community, and history of the church. During the tour I learned about the difficulties the church is having like the lead in the windows. Which is why they are remodeling, for the structure of the church, but also to help the community stay together.
