The Welcoming, Warm Atmosphere of the Tillamook Forest Center
Event: Tillamook ForestInterviewer: Mack
Whom did you interview?
The person who I interviewed/talked with was a worker at the gift shop! I got caught up talking about a million things and forgot catch his name, however he was so kind and willing to talk with me. He goes to Pacific University and used to be a QuarterBack on the football team. However now he works at the wonderful Tillamook Forest Center and continues his studies at PU.
How did your EcoTypes and SDG priorities compare? He hadn’t of been to the Tillamook forest a crazy number of times before wanting to work here, but he did have some great insight! He loves the forest and thought there had been some amazing growth from what we seen from Tillamook forest before. He believed that we should definitely have space for both nature to run wild and allow that people can work with the land. He thought that Tillamook definitely wants to keep a wild area that is still able to be shown to those who want to enjoy it! After discussing about the current problems going on in the forest like disease and some burning, he thought that staying somewhere in the middle of helping where we can but also allowing the forest to do its own thing is probably the best. He believes old technology was good for when it was around but we definitely need to be taking the newer steps with the technology we have now. I feel I am very similar to what he was talking to me about, I definitely feel like I am more towards wild nature but still very similar.
What larger MCJD lessons did you learn? With not only the guy I met, but seeing how everyone acted as I walked around the Tillamook Center, everyone is different. Everyone is there to learn about different things, coming in with different knowledge and just wanting different things out of the experiences. Underneath all of that though, is people who want to learn and grow as a community and just want to be better informed about the Earth.
